Here is a list of news and upcoming events that we do to keep Mike's spirit with us as much as possible. As you will notice, there is quite a variety of things going on. Mike loved everything in life, and you can see that by the variety of things we do to celebrate his life.
The purpose of the "Runnership" is to provide the opportunity for someone to participate in the No Boundaries program who might otherwise not be able to. The cost of the program is covered. The MK5K Committee will review all applicants and select a couple of winners that have the desire and just need the encouragement and support.

Mike was a part of the CrossFit community being a proud member of CrossFit DeWitt. Mike never backed down from a challenge and CrossFit DeWitt helped him realize that he could do anything he put his mind to. It took a couple of months and Mike seeking out advice from the coaches before it clicked. Then, he was a CrossFitter, completing his first Murph in 46 minutes!
Mike had a thing for always wearing a hat while doing his CrossFit wods. Usually his Miami Dolphin hat, but his SU hats frequently made an appearance. Nobody understood WHY he would wear a hat to work out in! He'd flip it one way for pullups, another way for situps, and still would not take it off even if they were both in the same wod. He was always there cheering on someone else. At first, he was hesitant. He didn't think he was good enough to be cheering on someone else. Not only did he learn that ability has nothing to do with cheering someone on, he saw it as his way to help someone, anyone, get over that hurdle that they were trying to beat.
Since Mike's accident, CFD (CrossFit DeWitt) created a wod to honor Mike and the way way he lived his life. The way he viewed the world. The way he touched others. Through word of mouth (and facebook!), there are boxes around the United States that participate in Hat's On For Mike. Obviously, a hat must be worn. A Miami Dolphins hat and a SU hat are Mike's first choices. The wod is a tough one.
“Hats on for Mike”
22 minute amrap (for his age)
1990m row then (for the year he was born)
7 power cleans (185/115)
Mike’s favorite Miami Dolphins player was the now former Dolphin Devone Bess, #15:
15 walking lunges
15 situps or Russian twists
DUE TO COVID, THE ANNUAL "HATS ON FOR MIKE" WILL HAVE TO BE DONE INDIVIDUALLY. YOU CAN DO WHATEVER WORKOUT YOU CAN HANDLE WITHOUT THE BENEFITS OF A GYM OR BOX. WE PLAN ON BEING BACK IN FULL FORCE FOR 2021! THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION!
Please post on CFD's FB page or email CrossFit DeWitt at firstname.lastname@example.org. Whether you do the official wod or a workout of your own, please submit pictures with hats on, thumbs up and smiling. The Michael way! Please post your pictures on CFD's FB page or Instagram with the hashtag #hatsonformike! This is spreading and have had people across the country honor Mike. Even if you can't do the official WOD, walk, run, do whatever workout you can and post the pics with the hashtag! THANKS!
If you knew Mike, you knew his passion was to save the wolves. Michael was attending the Santa Fe Zoology program in Gainesville, Florida and planned on studying, educating people and preserving wolves in their wild habitat. To honor Mike, friends and family of Bower's & Company CPA's, located in Syracuse, NY, donated an interactive educational sign permanently displayed at the Wolf Exhibit in our zoo. Please stop by our zoo, check out the sign, and if possible, take a selfie or an action shot with you with the sign or the wolves. Feel free to post it to RIP Michael Kriesel on FB.
